On September 8, 2024, the "2024 Pujiang Innovation Forum - Innovation Culture Forum", jointly organized by Shanghai Institute for Science of Science and Science and Technology Daily, was successfully held in Zhangjiang Science Hall. Zhang Biyong, member of the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Science and Technology and president of Science and Technology Daily, Wang Yu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, and other officials attended the forum. The forum was presided over by Wang Yuan, former executive vice president of the China Academy of Science and Technology for Development. Domestic and international experts held keynote speeches and panel discussions on the theme of "Exploring the principles of things to the fullest, promoting a two-way integration of culture and technology". More than 100 delegates attended the meeting.
During the keynote report session, President Zhang Biyong delivered a keynote report titled "Cultivating Hard Technology with Soft Culture", elaborating on the two-way integration of culture and technology. Paul Boros, Secretary-General of the World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organizations, pointed out that fostering innovative culture requires uniting the world and global collaboration. Guo Zhe, Director of the China Science and Technology Museum, emphasized the need to break away from the traditional dualistic stance of separating science and humanities, ensuring that the theoretical foundation of values is not subverted by technological progress. Tom Stafford, a professor at the University of Sheffield, questioned and criticized the current state of scientific research culture in the UK. Tian Jietang, Director of the Industrial Economics Department of the Development Research Center of the State Council, believes that the innovative culture needed for future industries is one of patient innovation and long-termism. Li Zhengfeng, Professor from Tsinghua University pointed out that scientific culture and innovative culture are moving towards convergence and reshaping. Bulcsu Gerde, Director of Business Development at the University of Szeged's Technology Transfer Company and the representative of the guest of honor, Hungary, proposed that breaking the isolation is important whether it is a technology center or an innovation center. Steven Hoffman, a well-known Silicon Valley investor and founder of Founders Space, believes that the core of an innovative culture is like a playground, where people must be allowed to play and have fun.
During the panel discussion session, Dean Wang Yuan, along with Xu Jian, Associate Dean of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Media and Communication School, Minister Gerde, Minister Tian Jietang, Director Guo Zhe, Professor Li Zhengfeng, Professor Stafford, and Liu Chao, Deputy General Manager of the Investment Banking Department of the Shanghai Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China, engaged in discussions on how to cultivate an innovative culture, among other topics. In this segment, guests frequently offered insightful remarks, the audience continuously posed questions, and the atmosphere of the meeting was lively.
Experts and scholars from the China Academy of Science and Technology for Development, the National Academy of Innovation Strategy, and the Department of Philosophy, East China Normal University, who provided planning suggestions for this conference, were also invited to participate in the forum.
The forum has received widespread attention, with the front page of the Science and Technology Daily reporting on it, and media outlets such as The Paper, Shanghai Observer, Xinmin Evening News, and China Daily have all covered the forum.
