Innovation-Driven Development and Supply-Side Structural Reform in A New Age
As socialism with Chinese characteristics enters a new era, China has come to a new stage of development. The principal contradiction facing Chinese society has evolved into one between unbalanced and inadequate development and the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life. This has generated new expectations for China’s social and economic development. After the financial crisis, due to the lack of impetus, the global economy has remained sluggish and undergone deep-going structural adjustments. With new challenges in a new era, promoting innovation-driven development strategy has become the only means for China to overcome the “middle-income trap” and realize sustainable development. China needs to thoroughly understand the laws of the new technological revolution and seize related opportunities, break the institutional barriers for innovation-driven development and fully harness the guiding role of science and technology innovation. This is an important approach for China to press ahead with supply-side structural reform and innovation-driven development.
The 2018 forum, centering on the two major topics of innovation-driven development and supply-side structural reform, will discuss on the ways to further implement the strategy of innovation-driven development; promote the application of new technologies; facilitate industrial transformation; intensify supply-side structural reform; fully harness the guiding role of science and technology innovation; advance reform-driven innovation and innovation-driven development; and accelerate the transfer from old to new development engines.
